Hand-held devices for traffic policemen

HYDERABAD: To keep a tab on the large number of persons violating traffic rules frequently, the police higher-ups have procured Portable Device Applications, also known as hand-held devices, and distributed them to all traffic police stations in city.

Instead of jotting down the particulars of a violator in the notebooks, the policeman can book the violations by feeding the data into the PDA. Details of 2,053 violators – listed as e-challan defaulters - who were issued 10 or more challans, had already been fed into all the PDAs. If any of them is caught again, the vehicle and its driver would be sent to court for prosecution.

The traffic police would be able to present full-fledged data of the driver in the chargesheet and build a strong case for cancellation of his or her driving licence. Details of violations would also be sent to the Road Transport Authority on a CD. The Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), V.S.K. Kaumudi, said, however, persons who had been paying e-challans promptly need not worry if they don’t violate the rules repeatedly.
