Middle and working class versus the rich

Minchina Ota (Kannada)

Director: AMR Ramesh

Cast: Vijaya Raghavendra, Murali, Rangayana Raghu, Suman, Lakshmi Rai Umasri

A film with the same title in the early Eighties carved out a niche for Ananth Nag and his younger brother the late Shankar Nag. AMR Ramesh of Cyanide fame is attempting to present an usual theme in a fresh format in his Minchina Ota.

Ramesh’s version of Minchina Ota gains significance as it launches the established heroes of Kannada cinema, Vijaya Raghavendra and his brother Murali, together for the first time.

The film deals with two kind-hearted drifters, painter Vijay (Vijaya Raghavendra) and mechanic Bhadra (Murali) always engaged in hilarious arguments, who share a love-hate relationship. In compliance with the traditional theme construction, Ramesh cleverly juxtaposes the villainous rich, the polished middle class and the emotional working class.

He pits the middle and working class heroes against the rich in keeping with the traditional formula. Despite the shortcomings, the film has an intelligent screenplay and poignant sequences in parts. Breathtaking truck-car chase for over 30 minutes in the climax, slick editing and excellent photography by Rajan help the film sustain audience interest.

With their imposing physique Vijaya Raghavendra and Murali draw attention.
