Health Matters: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi interacting with a patient during his visit to GGH in Kakinada on Friday. Kakinada: In yet another surprise inspection of the Government General Hospital (GGH), Kakinada on Friday, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi expressed dissatisfaction at the lack of cleanliness, both inside the wards on the hospital premises, and ordered corrective action to be taken immediately. He regretted that the attitude of the hospital administrators was lethargic in spite of several warnings by him and said he would no longer tolerate dereliction of duties. He asked the GGH superintendent doctor S. Raj Kumar why in some wards two patients were sharing a single bed and bed sheets were not changed after repeated use. Mr. Dwivedi ordered that notices be issued to the food contractor for failure to maintain quality of the food items served to the inpatients and to improve the conditions prevalent in and around the kitchen to prevent possible contamination of the food. He wanted the sanitary conditions on the entire hospital premises to be improved at the earliest lest penal action should be taken against the hospital administrators or the doctors concerned. During his visit to the children’s ward, Collector Dwivedi ordered that a sum of Rs. 5,000 be sanctioned as financial assistance to a deaf and dumb couple who came for treatment of their baby girl who was dumb. He also issued instruction to sanction pension to the couple to help them eke out a living from the monthly remittances. Later, in a meeting with the hospital authorities, Mr. Dwivedi said the overall situation at the GGH should improve before this month end and warned that stringent action would be taken against anyone responsible for poor maintenance of the hospital premises and those who fail to render proper services to the patients. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
