Dowry death: women, child set afire

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Sundramma (21), wife of Manju, and her one-year-old child, Nandakumar, died on Thursday, from burns, after they were doused with kerosene by Manju’s relatives for not bringing enough dowry.

According to the village people, Sundramma was married to Manju, a resident of Kotamballi village in the taluk, two years ago. .

The couple lived peacefully for about one year and had a child. Soon, Sundramma’s in-laws began harassing her for more dowry.Matters came to a head on Thursday night, when Manju’s relatives set her and her son on fire.

The village people rushed them to K.R. Hospital, where both were declared dead on arrival.
