WARANGAL: The district administration proposes to launch the second phase of ration cards distribution from July 18 in the city and in Jangaon, while the process will be launched across the district from August 1.

Joint Collector K. Srinivasa Raju said the second phase was aimed at covering all those who were left out and those who could not get the ration cards earlier. The State government is likely to revise the income limit for the issuance of white ration cards.

He said that the income ceiling would be Rs. 65,000 per annum to people living in rural areas, while it could be Rs. 75,000 for those living in urban areas to be eligible for white ration cards.

“The revision of income limit will result in conversion of pink cards into white cards,” Mr Srinivasa Raju said.

Every family would get a ration card, pink or white depending on the income limit. A total of 33,000 out of a total of 55,000 families that have pink cards in the Warangal Municipal Corporation area would get the eligibility to get the white ration cards this time. There was huge demand for cards and already 11,000 applications were pending in corporation limits.

The Joint Collector appealed to the people to apply and get a ration card producing the iris photo identity cards in the fresh phase.
