THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Government will soon initiate steps to start sports recruitment in the Kerala Police, said M. Vijayakumar, the Kerala Sports Minister, here on Saturday. The minister was speaking after inaugurating the seminar on development of volleyball game organised by Volleyball Family Club. The minister said that his government has plans to recruitment sportspersons in public sector undertakings. He also promised that the volleyball team in public sector unit Travancore Titanium would be revived. The minister stressed the need for improving the infrastructure in the State and said the aim of the government was to construct a stadium and a swimming pool in each panchayat in the State. The president of the Volleyball Family Club, S. Gopinath IPS lamented the decline of the game in the State. He said volleyball used to be one of the most popular games in the State but now the game is struggling as there are fewer people playing the game in the State. Lack of playing grounds and tournaments were some reasons for the dwindling interest in the game in the State, he said. A guideline for reviving the game in the State was submitted to the Sports Minister at the seminar. — Principal Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
