The covering letter and the Demand Draft were intact though the cover was found opened TIRUCHI: It may sound bizarre who for that matter will ever think that a letter sent through registered post will be found on a road side the very next day. That was what happened. The cover, containing a Demand Draft for Rs.1.16 lakh along with a covering letter, was sent by registered post from the Jamal Mohamed College post office in the city on Friday afternoon to a private business school in Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district. It was sent by the District Information and Public Relations Officer, Tiruchi S. Pandiyan, for his son’s MBA admission. To his shock, the cover found its way back to him on Saturday afternoon. A member of the public who became curious on finding the cover along with few others on the road-side at Pettavaithalai, a few kilometres from here, picked them up. Going by the senders address, the person personally handed over the cover at the residence of Mr. Pandiyan in the city on Saturday. The covering letter and the Demand Draft were intact though the cover was found opened, Mr. Pandian said. Postal officials surprisedWhen the issue was brought to the notice of the Postal authorities here, they too expressed surprise and assured to investigate the matter immediately. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
