‘Ashadam’ keeps sellers and buyers happy

It’s that time of the year when there is discounts raining all around and shops and malls eagerly throw open their doors while the enthusiastic shoppers make a beeline to their favourite shops. What was once considered a sluggish period for sales has now turned into the busiest period of the year for businessmen in the city.

Aashadam falls in the fourth month of the Telugu calendar just before the auspicious Shravanam and generally comes around the month of July. Shopkeepers also considered the ‘dark’ or inauspicious period of the year, as the least profitable month.

However, they have turned the situation in their favour by offering attractive discounts on clothes, jewellery and even household ware to boost up their sales.

While in the South Aashadam is considered an inauspicious time for many reasons, people have come over the traditional belief.

Most shops label the discounts as ‘Aashadam specials’ while malls and multinational chains use the word that entices everyone – sales. This season Kankatala at V Square is offering discounts up to 60 per cent.

The sarees and dress materials section has a discount ranging from 30 per cent to 60 per cent. A 25 per cent discount is offered on special range of sarees by designer Satya Paul. In the men’s section up to 40 per cent discount is being offered on garments while a 15 per cent discount is given on men’s accessories. In the kid’s collection, the showroom is offering a discount up to 50 percent.
