IMPHAL: Normal life in Manipur has been affected since Sunday night due to a strike by Kuki students.

They are protesting against “extra judicial killings” of a tribal law student and a sportsperson by police commandos and BSF personnel on Friday.

All commercial vehicles were off the road and shops and petrol pumps remained closed. Educational institutions were exempted from the strike at the behest of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur. However, there was no report of any untoward incident.

The police claimed that the victims — Limlenbert Hangsing, a law student, and Thaninsei Kipgen, a sportsperson — were militants from whom guns and incriminating documents were recovered.

However, a committee formed by the tribals claimed that the victims were innocent persons. Its leaders have met Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
