Rajesh wins

HYDERABAD: Asian Games bronze medallist Rajesh Chaudhury of Southern Command-I won the first Laser Radial race of the Director General EME Trophy sailing championships that got under way at the Hussain Sagar here on Monday.

His teammates, Narender Singh (helm) and S.R. Rawat (crew), took the honours in the opening race in the Enterprise class, cornering the laurels for Southern Command-I on day one.

The four-day, nine-race meet was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. K.S. Venugopal, Commandant, Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.

Owing to poor wind conditions, Principal Race Officer Lt. Col. (Retd.) M.P. Jaggi postponed the second race to Tuesday.He said there were seven teams from different commands in addition to two individual entries in the fray.

The results: First race: Laser Radial: 1. Rajesh Chaudhury (SC-I), 2. Dilip Kumar (Individual entry), 3. B.K. Rout (SC-II), 4. Rajesh Kumar (3 EME Centre, Bhopal), 5. Maj. P.K. Singh (MCEME), 6. D.P. Selvam (Station Workshop, Colaba, Mumbai).

Enterprise (helm-crew): 1. Narender Singh & S.R. Rawat (SC-I), 2. Chandrashekar & T.D. Singh (SW, Colaba), 3. Kamlesh Patil & V.K. Maruti (SC-II), 4. Deepender & D.C. Das (1 EME Centre), 5. Satish Kumar & P.K.M. Choudhary (MCEME), 6. Ashish Patel & Sharif Khan (3 EME Centre, Bhopal).
