CHENNAI: In keeping with the Tamil Nadu Football Association Central Council’s directive, the General Body of the Chennai Football Association met again on Sunday and virtually the same set of office-bearers who were elected on June 25 returned unopposed. The June 25 meeting was held at the instance of 70 clubs despite TFA Secretary T.R. Govindarajan’s directive that no meeting should be held until the Central Council of the TFA met on June 28 in Coimbatore and discussed the issue of active and inactive clubs. CFA’s erstwhile President, C.R. Visswanathan had also communicated to the various clubs that the scheduled meeting of June 25 was cancelled. At the Coimbatore meeting the CFA was asked to call the General Body again on July 13 for fresh elections. With Vice President M. Kumaresh in the chair the meeting was held with representatives of 68 clubs attending out of the 90 active clubs in the CFA. Nominations filed were only those who were elected in the earlier meeting and so the election of each post was declared unopposed. The new President and Secretary remain Ravikumar David and E. Sugumaran respectively. All other office bearers announced earlier remain unchanged except in the executive committee where T. Thyagarajan replaces Manivannan. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
