VMCC is champion

Namakkal: Venkataraman Memorial Cricket Club (Pallipalayam) defeated Bharath Cricket Club by 31 runs and lifted the Thangavelu Trophy in the Canara Bank-DCAN second division league at the SPB Colony grounds recently.

Final: Venkataraman MCC 196 in 38.1 overs (R. Vikram 44, R. Suresh 40) bt Bharath CC (Namakkal) 165 in 34.5 overs (C. Suresh 54, R. Suresh four for 27).

Armed Police advances

At Coimbatore, Armed Police posted a 79-68 win over Bharath Sports Club in the quarterfinal of the 54th YMCA basketball tournament for men for the S. Venkatakrishnan Trophy at the YMCA courts on Wednesday.

Rajendran (24 pts) and Ganesh Prabhu (18 pts) did well for the winner, while Ishok (26 pts) did well for the loser. — Sports Reporter
