Rishika enters semifinals

NEW DELHI: Rishika Sunkara defeated compatriot Aishwarya Agarwal 7-6(4), 6-4 to move into the semifinals of the girls event in the ITF junior grade ‘IV’ tennis tournament in Damascus, Syria, on Wednesday.

While Ankita Raina also made the semifinals, Shweta Chandra Rana went down in straight sets to the second-seeded Petra Jurova of the Slovak Republic.

In the boys’ event, Shiva Sangwan emerged the sole Indian to make the semifinals, while the finalist of the last tournament, Palash Tiwari, lost tamely in the quarterfinals.

The results (quarterfinals):

Boys: Shiva Sangwan bt Mansingh Athare 7-5, 6-4; Bruno Abdelnour (Syr) bt Palash Tiwari 6-2, 6-3.

Girls: Rishika Sunkara bt Aishwarya Agarwal 7-6(4), 6-4; Ankita Raina bt Nadeem Salam (Egy) 6-3, 6-4; Petra Jurova (Svk) bt Shweta Chandra Rana 6-3, 6-4.
