MAHABUBNAGAR: District Collector V. Usharani said that the last day for payment of premium under crop insurance scheme was July 31. Briefing media persons here on Wednesday, the Collector said that the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme was being implemented since 2001, but due to lack of awareness among farmers in the district, they are not getting the benefit of insurance. She said that during 2008 kharif, the government has identified maize, jowar, paddy, green gram, red gram, groundnut, castor, cotton and chilli for insurance through National Agriculture Insurance Company in the district. She informed that for maize, the village would be taken as a unit, while the mandal would be taken as a unit for other crops. Non-loanee farmersShe requested the non-loanee farmers to pay the premium for maize as well as other crops before July 31 to the village revenue officer and get acknowledgment.
