CHENNAI: Senior officers of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) have been urged to strictly follow the procedures and complete domestic enquiry in a short time, as specified by the Central Vigilance Commission, so that justice is not denied to the needy, Customs Commissioner C. Rajan said on Wednesday. Inaugurating an in-house training programme on ‘domestic enquiry’ organised by the CWC, Mr. Rajan said the job of vigilance officers was to eradicate corruption and book corrupt officers. However, there were few takers for this job, though vigilance officers had an important role to play. “Cases have to be completed quickly. Don’t set aside cases if you are not familiar with the subject. Prolonged enquiry means torture for the officer. Vigilance officers should be able to make a distinction between corrupt practices and wrong decisions. In the end, honest officers should not be punished, as it would put an end to their career,” he said. CWC regional manager C.T. Thomas said the workshop was aimed at enabling the senior officers to learn from others. Officers of Indian Bank, Chennai Petroleum Corporation, the Chennai Port Trust, Southern Railway and Indian Oil Corporation will share their experience with the participants in the next two days. The workshop is being attended by 50 senior officers of the CWC Southern Region. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
