Pedestrian subway opened in Pazhavanthangal

New facility: Commuters using the pedestrian subway at the Pazhavanthangal Railway Station on Wednesday.

CHENNAI: A pedestrian subway at the Pazhavanthangal Railway Station was inaugurated on Wednesday by Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan.

The M.K.N. Road railway overbridge and the Kathipara grade separator would be completed shortly and thrown open to the public, he said. The subway, constructed from the Constituency Development Fund of South Chennai Member of Parliament and Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu, has been established at the cost of Rs.10.37 lakh.

The subway, which was a long-felt need of the commuters, links the Pazhavanthangal station to the Railway Station Road via the Pazhavanthangal subway. The subway would provide a convenient alternative to the foot-over-bridge that the commuters used to reach the station.

Alandur Municipal Chairman R.S. Bharathi said the commuters of Nanganallur and Pazhavanthangal have been highlighting the need for the subway as they found it difficult to access the railway station through the foot-over-bridge.
