Another innings win for Grand Slam

Chennai: Grand Slam registered its second successive innings victory, beating Alwarpet by an innings and 18 runs, in the second round of the TNCA first division cricket league, at ICL Guru Nanak, on Wednesday.

Off-spinner S. Suresh Kumar picked five wickets for 54 runs, to dismiss Alwarpet for 177 in 65.2 overs. Suresh now has 13 wickets in the two matches so far, while Arun Kumar, also of Grand Slam, has 10.

At Railway Ground, Aruna defeated Southern Railway Institute by an innings and 48 runs. S.Rly. was dismissed for 128 in 46.4 overs, with leg-spinner M.P. Rajesh finishing the innings with five wickets for 50 runs. Rajesh’s last four wickets came in the space of 31 balls, conceding 11 runs.

Vijay registered a comfortable nine-wicket win over Globe Trotters at Pachaiappa’s ‘A’. Left-arm spinner S. Senthil Kumar picked five wickets for 66 runs for Globe Trotters, but saw his team manage just 140 in 64.3 overs, setting Vijay a target of 27 in five overs.

The match between UFCC (T. Nagar) and India Pistons at CPT-IP ended in a draw, with India Pistons securing the first-innings lead. India Pistons made 342 from its overnight score of 163 for six, with I.T. Thabaarak Baik making an unbeaten 95. Baik was involved in a 164-run stand for the seventh wicket with M. Suresh Babu. Suresh was dismissed for 82.

Set a target of 316 in 61 overs by Parry’s, Indian Bank finished at 128 for four when play was called off after the fifth mandatory over, to draw the second round match at Murugappa-TI Cycles Ground. Parry’s finished with five points.

Young Stars drew its match with Jolly Rovers, after being made to follow-on at IIT-Chemplast. Young Stars made 250 in response to Rovers’ 500, with left-arm spinner Vidyut picking four for 49.

The scores: S. Rly Instt. 184 & 128 in 46.4 overs (M.P. Rajesh five for 50) lost to Aruna 360 for five declared in 104 overs. Aruna 8, S. Rly Inst. 0.

Grand Slam 358 bt Alwarpet 163 & 177 in 65.2 overs (R. Rohit 76, S. Suresh Kumar five for 54). Grand Slam 8, Alwarpet 0.

Globe Trotters 195 & 140 in 64.3 overs (U. Sushil 52, J. Kaushik four for 39) lost to Vijay 309 in 100.4 overs (Abhinav Mukund 103, R. Prasanna 43, S. Senthil Kumar five for 66) & 30 for one in 3.1 overs. Vijay 8, Globe Trotters 0.

Jolly Rovers 500 drew with Young Stars 250 in 64.2 overs (R. Prashanth 103, S. Ramesh 62, S. Vidyut four for 49) & 162 for three in 63 overs (Vikram Mani 50, R. Prashanth 49). Jolly Rovers 5, Young Stars 2.

Parry’s 199 & 212 for seven declared in 53.5 overs (N.S. Kumaraguru 42, Ra. Aravind 42, Prasanth K. Verma four for 42) drew with Indian Bank 96 & 128 for four in 51 overs (E. Suresh 43 not out). Parry’s 5, Indian Bank 2.

UFCC (T. Nagar) 260 drew with India Pistons 342 in 146.4 overs (I.T. Thabaarak Baik 95 not out, M. Suresh Babu 82, K.H. Gopinath 67, J. Joel Joseph four for 92). India Pistons 5, UFCC 2.
