Parental income limit enhanced

HYDERABAD: The State government has decided to enhance the parental income ceiling of students hailing from economically backward classes to Rs. 1 lakh for grant of scholarships on par with BCs and Minorities. At a meeting with School Education Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha and senior officials, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy agreed to grant scholarships to EBC students joining the Intermediate course from this academic year. Officials informed Dr. Reddy that a budgetary provision of Rs. 25 crore was made for EBCs of which Rs. 3 crore was exclusively earmarked for Kapus last year.

The Chief Minister wanted the allocation to students hailing from Kapu community to be enhanced to Rs. 6 crore while the balance amount could be utilised for other communities.
