Samprokshanam

Sri Ksheerabdhisayana Narayanaperumal Temple,Thirulokki, Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk, Thanjavur District, is a serene village where people of all religions and sects live together.

The perumal temple (Thiruparkadal Pallikonda Narayanaperumal) was built during the period of Rajaraja Chola I whose Pattamahishi Thirlokkiya Madeviyar hails from this village.

The temple was maintained by Kasi Mutt, Thirupanandal, with the income from the land that belonged to the temple.

After the H.R &.C.E Department of the State Government took charge of the temple, the income was irregular and proper maintenance was not possible.

The samprokshanam to this temple was last performed in 1951. Due to dearth of funds, the puja was performed only once a day and the bhattachar was not paid his monthly salary.

This was set right to the extent possible by the villagers, who with a resolution to bring this temple to proper condition formed a trust in the name of Karuvoor Thevar, poet and minister during the reign of of Rajaraja Cholan I.

The trust, with the help of H.R&C.E, Kasi Mutt, Thirupanandal, villagers and devotees, has taken up the renovation work since 2004.

The balalayam for moolasthanam was done on June 13.

The samprokshanam is scheduled to take place on August 20.

Contributions are welcome. Donations may be deposited in S.B.A/C No. 284656 of City Union Bank, Thiruppanandal, favouring the Karuvur Thevar Trust, Thirulokki.

Transport arrangements have been made from Kumbakonam.
