Scheme to be implemented over five years

Burglary alarm, strong room for primary banks


PUDUKOTTAI: Infrastructure of cooperative institutions in Pudukottai district will soon see a major improvement with the sanction of Rs.14.37 crore under the Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP).

The National Cooperative Development Corporation will release a loan of Rs.3.08 crore, while the cooperative bodies will contribute Rs.8.76 crore.

The balance Rs.2.53 crore will come by way of subsidies from the Central and state governments.

Additional infrastructure facilities would be provided to the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks, Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Societies, Primary Consumer Cooperative Societies, Dairy units and Industrial Cooperative Societies under the project.

Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks will get a facelift with the installation of modern equipment such as burglary alarm, strong room, computer/information kiosk besides setting up of banking counters.

Fair price shops run by the primary banks would get furniture and other necessary amenities, an official source told The Hindu here on Wednesday.

Primary Agricultural and Rural Development Banks would get iron safe and jewel weighing machine.

The additional facilities for the Pudukottai District Central Cooperative Bank included six safety lockers, 21 currency counting machines and 40 computers.

The scheme also permits construction of godowns and compound by the Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Societies and, purchase of computers by Industrial Cooperative Societies.

A salient feature of the project will be the sanction of Rs. 1 crore for the Cooperative Spinning Mill in Aranthangi. The Pudukottai District Cooperative Printing Press will also be modernised.
