Parliamentary team interacts with SHGs

HYDERABAD: The progress achieved by self-help groups (SHGs) through ‘pavala vaddi’ loans in Chevella mandal came in for appreciation from the Parliamentary Consultative Committee.

The Parliamentary team visited Mudimyala village and interacted with members of SHGs on Thursday.

Expressing satisfaction over the women empowerment schemes, the members also inquired about distribution of benefits to women such as pensions.

Ranga Reddy Collector Dana Kishore said that 22,881 SHGs were sanctioned Rs.178 crore during 2007-08 under ‘pavala vaddi’ scheme for taking up various self employment activities.

About 2.14 lakh poor women were identified and made into groups in the last four years, he said. Sailendra Kumar, MP, who inspected Employment Guarantee Scheme works, suggested to the Collector to affix photographs on job cards issued to the beneficiaries. The committee comprised Nanda Kishore Yadav, Ramlakhan Singh, Sardar Sukhdev Singh, Sujata, Jyotirmayi Sikdar, S.S.Pradhan, A.K.Moorthy and P.Madhu.
