Bangalore: Healthcare in the State, especially in the rural areas, is all set to get a major boost with the State Government planning a new scheme “Arogya Kavacha” that will cover trauma, accident, maternity and all other health emergencies of people, including accidents related to fire, law and order and disasters. The budget for 2008-2009 proposes a Rs. 220-crore comprehensive health care project, including call centre and mobile treatment facilities across the State. This project will be implemented through public-private partnership. Conceived on the lines of a similar project in Andhra Pradesh, this project will have a toll-free number (108) and custom-made fully equipped ambulances to transport patients to the nearest hospital. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
