HOW AND WHY: C. Amuthavalli, CEO-SSA, explaining how to use maths kits to teachers in Tiruchi on Thursday. — TIRUCHI: About four hundred sets of Maths kits have been provided so far to elementary schools in the district for helping students easily grasp arithmetic as part of activity-based learning (ABL) under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. In each of the 16 blocks in the district, 20 per cent schools have received the kits. According to Education department officials, the kits have helped students up to standard IV to learn addition, multiplication, subtraction and division with enthusiasm. On Thursday, Chief Educational Officer – SSA C. Amuthavalli initiated a two-day refresher programme at the Corporation Elementary School in Keela Pudur. She envisaged an active role for Block Resource Teachers to make the ABL a success. The approach to learning should be made interesting, she emphasised, demonstrating the use of the kits. Thirty two Maths BRTs and an equal number of Mathematics teachers are taking part in the programme. The participants would pass on the benefit of the training to teachers in all blocks in two phases from July 21 to 24 and July 28 to 31. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
