DAV Mogappair enters semifinals

CHENNAI: K. Siddarth played a significant role as host DAV CBSE Mogappair scored a 3-1 win over DAV HSS Gopalapuram to enter the semifinals of the second Shrimathi Prabha Jaidev memorial knock-out schools’ football tournament being held here on Thursday.

The others to enter the last four were Wesley (Royapettah), St. Patrick’s (Adyar) and PSBB (K.K. Nagar).

The results (quarterfinals):

DAV CBSE (Mogappair) 3 (Vishnu 1, Yaman 1, Sathish 1) bt DAV HSS (Gopalapuram) 1(Ajay).

Wesley HSS (Royapettah) 3 (Surender Kumar 2, Satish Kumar 1) bt Don Bosco (Egmore) 0.

St. Patrick’s (Adyar) 4 (Adrion Beschi 1, Lingo Atal 2, Salomon Chawang 1) bt Don Bosco (Perambur) 0.

Burhannuddin dazzles

S. Burhannuddin’s century powered Kaligi Ranganathan to a convincing win in the TNCA-Boost under-16 city schools cricket tournament for the C. Ramaswamy Trophy.

Santhome ‘A’ 199 for five in 30 overs (Ganga Sridhar Raju 65, S. Selva 34, B. Ashok 25) bt PSBB 109 in 26.1 overs (Rushab 41, M. Anjan 31, A. Karthik three for 21).

PS SSS 183 for four in 30 overs (M.S. Suraj 57, M. Satish 57, M. Adityan 44, Aravind Mahadevan 34) bt Union Christian 124 in 29.1 overs (Aravind Mahadevan three for 16).

Bharadwaj scalps five

V. Bharadwaj claimed five for 17 as Modern SSS ‘A’ defeated Kendriya Vidyalaya (Tambaram) by eight wickets in the Reddy’s inter-school under-14 tournament here recently.

The scores:

Kendriya Vidyalaya (Tambaram) 130 in 17.4 overs (Jutin Bernaud 31, G. Vinay 52, V. Bharadwaj five for 17, R. Anirudh three for 23) lost to Modern SSS ‘A’ 133 for two in 16.1 overs (S. Girish 28, K.B. Dixit 30 n.o.).

Valluvar Gurukul 173 for seven in 25 overs (J. Jennison 82, M. Vignesh 40, S. Abhishek four for 20) lost to Zion MHS 175 for nine in 24.4 overs (A. Ajith 26, S. Srikkanth 25, N. Arun Raj three for 47, A.M. Manikandan three for 27).

Modern SSS ‘B’ 163 for five in 25 overs (Aditya Nagaraj 31, K. Yeshwanth 25) bt Govt. School Medavakkam 144 for nine in 25 overs (M. Velu 38, M. Sriram three for nine).

Inter-club squash

Seven teams will take part in the second edition of the MCC-V.P. Thirumoorthy Memorial Trophy inter-club squash tournament to be held at the Madras Cricket Club courts on July 18, 19, 25 and 26 (over two weekends).

The tournament launched last year by the MCC in memory of V.P. Thirumoorthy who was a keen squash player and ardent supporter of the game, has gained popularity as reflected in the additional teams that some clubs have fielded.

The teams taking part are Gandhinagar Club, Presidency Club, Cosmopolitan Club A, Cosmopolitan Club B, Madras Race Club, Madras Cricket Club A and Madras Cricket Club B.

The teams will be divided into two pools and the winner of each pool will play the final.

The format for the tournament is two open singles, one veteran singles and two doubles.

The tournament is sponsored by the VST group of companies.

Krishnan and Mahadevan win

S. Krishnan and A. Mahadevan won the weekly pair event at T. Nagar Social Club here on Thursday with a score of 67.23 per cent playing East-West.

T.M. Suri and C Anandan won from the North-South direction with a score of 57.42 per cent.

Top three positions:

North-South:

1. S. Krishnan / A. Mahadevan; 2. A. Vishwanathan / T.N. Thyagrajan; 3. R. Balagurunathan / R.S. Narayanan.

East-West:

S. Krishnan / A. Mahadevan; 2. S. Ganesan / C.R. Kumar; 3. S. Chandrasekaran / K. Rajagopal.

Tennis tournament

YMCA Kilpauk will organise the annual members’ tennis tournament from July 23 to 26 at the YMCA Kilpauk Courts, in the men’s singles and doubles, veterans’ singles and doubles, boys’ under-10 and under-14 categories.
