Three-day garment fair from Sunday

CHENNAI: The third edition of the annual garment fair of the Chennai Apparel Association will begin at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, on Sunday.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, honorary president of the Association Jagdish Sarda said the three-day fair would showcase a wide range of products of leading brands such as Recardo, Venfield and Stori.

It would provide an opportunity for the garment retailers to interact with the manufacturers and also place orders for the upcoming festive season.

The fair would be inaugurated by Union Minister for Information and Technology A.Raja on Sunday.

A fashion show ‘Vastra’08’ would also be conducted on Monday.

Association’s president Nilesh Batavia said last year, business worth Rs.100 crore was generated at the exhibition.

“We expect about 3,000 visitors and generate business worth Rs.200 crore this year,” Mr. Batavia added.

Members of the association said the retail market in the city was flourishing as more shopping malls were being established.
