A film for the generation next

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Kamal, as a filmmaker, always tried to move along with times. His new attempt is also on the same lines. The film Minnaminnikottam is a declaration of soft feelings of the new generation and new times, Kamal said during the interaction with the media here on Friday.

Every film has a duty of its own. Minnaminnikoottam is meant to click at the box office. The target audience is responding well to the film, he said. Even then, it takes times for a film like this to reach to its audience, unlike films featuring ‘super stars’.

Though he believes he belonged to a generation of film-goers who rejected song-and-dance mix in films, Kamal realises that the present generation celebrates life featured in the songs and dances. And so, he chose to have information technology as the background for the film, the first such attempt in Malayalam, to capture the moods and trends of the Gen-X.

But the trial is not over for the filmmaker, though the film has reached cinemas across the State. There are people who hoot at the film, right from the moment opening titles appear on the screen. That, Kamal believed, is not a response to the quality of the film, but a sign of negative social behaviour.

Actor Jayasoorya, music composer Bijibal and lyricist Anil Panachooran were present at the press meet along with Kamal.
