Film on Ambedkar to be screened

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Telugu version of Jabbar Patel’s film noted film, “Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar-The Untold Truth” is being screened at the VUDA Children’s Theatre here at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Professors of Andhra University and others formed into a committee to screen the movie ”Dr. B.R. Ambedkar-Daagani Nijam” to let people understand Ambedkar and understand his life, ideas and thought.

Though the movie has received a good name, it was not a commercial success. Hence it was decided to screen it here, and in other places in future, convenor of the committee and a senior professor of AU K.P. Subba Rao said at a press conference here on Friday.

Efforts were on to rope in donors so that the movie could be screened at a theatre in the city for free viewing of public. It was screened in East Godavari for 50 days with the help of donors in the past.

Malayalam actor Mammutti played the role of Ambedkar in the film which depicts the leader’s life from his college days. Along with Jabbar Patel’s direction, Ashok Mehta’s photography and Nitin Desai’s art direction were appreciated by all. Shyam Bengal helped in preparing the script for the movie.

The film was shot in actual locations of Columbia University, the British Museum, the Mahad lake, Yerawada Jail, Rajagriha, Nagpur and other places which saw some important phases in the life of Ambedkar.

The film was jointly produced by the Central Government, the Maharashtra Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and NFDC at a cost of Rs. 14 crores. Ghantasala Ratnakumar translated the movie into Telugu while Sunil was producer. The Nag Enterprises released the Telugu version.

Other members of the committee P.D.S. Paul, T. Sharon Raju and Michael also spoke.
