TIDITSSIA ties up with Canara Bank to train women

TIRUCHI: Under its Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Project, the Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association has joined hands with the Canara Bank to train prospective women entrepreneurs in cutting and stitching leather gloves.

In a press release issued on Friday, the Project Director of TIDITSSIA-STEP Ramaswamy Desai said that the Canara Bank will provide financial assistance for those completing a 21-day training programme while the TIDITSSIA will take care of raw material tie ups and marketing. Candidates from the economically backward strata will be selected during the last week of this month and the training will commence by the first week of August. TIDITSSIA expects to launch the manufacturing units in a month from then.

Leather products is one among the six core projects TIDITSSIA has identified for implementation under the STEP project, through which 150 projects could be launched since May 2006. The other projects are Garments, Imitation Jewellery, Food Processing, Business Process Outsourcing and Machine Shops.
