Coimbatore: The City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali, has placed a sub-inspector, one head constable and three other police personnel under suspension on charges of negligence and dereliction of duty. It is learnt that the police were escorting a serial bomb blast case life term convict Abbas to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. The convict before returning to the prison had sought permission for attending nature’s call and had boarded the escort vehicle thereafter. When brought to the Central Prison for lodging him back, the prison security staff frisked him and found two mobile phones and one charger in his inner garment. Hence, holding the personnel for dereliction of duty, the Commissioner ordered suspension of Sub-Inspector Krishnasamy, Head Constable Sebastian and three others. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
