Short-selling in bear markets

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: Udayan Mukherjee, managing editor, CNBC-TV18, has opined that in bear markets, short-selling will make a good gain.

Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 investor camp held in Kochi on Saturday, Mr. Mukherjee said that even though these were difficult periods for the stock market, the investor still had great opportunities.

Ashwin Gujral, technical analyst, said that those who sustained in the business not withstanding temporary loss would be able to make money. “You must be patient in the stock market, otherwise you will become a patient” he remarked. “To become a successful trader, one has to consider it a serious business. You must have a military- like discipline and punctuality to do the business; you cannot relax during trading, you have to be fearless,” he added.

Ramesh Damani, member, BSE, said that the stock market was not growing even with growth in GDP because of the rise in oil prices and inflation. Returns from the stock market in the next five years may be more subdued than the previous five years, Mr. Damani said.

Sudarshan Sukhani, technical analyst and Rajen Shah of Angel Marketing also spoke on the occasion.
