Manoj topples Govind

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fourth Seed Manoj Sahibjan toppled top seed Govind Sivan to win the men’s singles title in the Thiruvananthapuram district badminton championship at the Sri Moolam Club here on Sunday.

Manoj won 21-16, 21-5. However, Govind won the men’s doubles title along with Nidhin Rehman. The duo defeated P.R. Binu and Praveen Babu 21-17, 21-16 in the final.

Vishnu Rajendran defeated S. Bichu 21-12, 21-8 to win the under-16 boys title.

The results (all finals): Men singles: Manoj Sahibjan bt Govind Sivan 21-16, 21-5. Doubles: Govind Sivan / Nidhin Rehman bt P.R. Binu / Praveen Babu 21-17, 21-16.

Mixed doubles: S. Manoj / Neethu Ninan bt Govind Sivan / Nanditha Krishnan 18-21, 21-17, 21-13.

Masters doubles: Rakesh Sekhar / Rajesh Sekhar bt Lal Mony / SantoshKumar 21-14, 21-12.

Boys: Under-16: Vishu Rajendran bt S. Bichu 21-12, 21-8.

Girls: Under-16 (doubles): Neha Narendran / Malavika Mathen bt Soumya B. Ashok / R. Divya 21-10, 21-19.
