Record handling of TEUs containers

CHENNAI: In the first six months of 2008, DP World Chennai has created a record of sorts by handling half-a-million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containers in Chennai Container Terminal.

As of June 30, 2008, DP World Chennai handled 6.14 lakh TEUs of containers through 383 vessels as against 4.98 lakh TEUs handled during the corresponding period last year marking an increase of 21 per cent. Of this, exports accounted for 2.52 lakh TEUs and imports 2.61 TEUs. For the current year, DP World plans to handle 1.28 million TEUs as against 1.05 million TEUs handled during 2007. — Special Correspondent
