Narayanan, Menon brief UPA

New Delhi: Key speakers of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), including Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday were briefed on the India-U.S. nuclear deal by National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon to prepare them for the crucial debate on the confidence motion on Monday. Mr. Narayanan and Mr. Menon told them about the nuances and details of the deal and the draft safeguards agreement at an hour-long session at the South Block.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who was the government’s chief negotiator with the Left parties on the deal, was also present at the briefing.

Among others who attended the briefing were Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Vayalar Ravi, Ram Vilas Paswan and Saifuddin Soz. — PTI
