Karun Chandhok. CHENNAI: India’s Karun Chandhok scored his first win of the 2008 GP2 series at Hockenheim in Germany here on Sunday. This is his second career win in the GP2 series, the earlier one coming in the 2007 season at Spa-Francochamps, Belgium. The 24-year-old from Chennai started from pole position but lost his advantage at the start to Renault F1 test driver Lucas di Grassi. Karun remained in second place for the first few laps, but soon surged ahead. Karun, driving for iSport International, came under intense pressure from Andi Zuber of Piquet Sports in the last 20 laps but kept his cool to take the chequered flag. “We’ve had some really bad luck this year, so it was nice to finally win one,” said Karun. “I was under pressure all the time, but I had good pace. “I think the team did a great job. It’s a fantastic result.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
