Adhesive unit gutted

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A fire broke out in a factory manufacturing adhesives in N.S. Palya near BTM Layout on Sunday evening and the raw material triggered a series of explosions sending the neighbours into a tizzy.

While the cause of fire was not known, the fire force personnel felt the inferno was similar to the one that had happened at a paint shop near Yediyur Lake sometime back. The fire which broke out at about 6 p.m. at Asian Agencies, engulfed the whole four-storeyed building within no time. Even as the barrels containing chemicals began exploding, the fire force personnel reached the spot with 12 fire tenders and began to extinguish the fire.

Joint Director, Fire and Emergency Services, B.G. Chengappa told The Hindu that the personnel cordoned off the building. The area where the unit is situated is a mixture of residential and industrial units.

The personnel were able to bring the fire under control within an hour. There were no casualties. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
