Ornamental fish seized

CHENNAI: Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs at the Chennai airport seized 231 live ornamental fish from a passenger who arrived by a flight from Kuala Lumpur on Monday. K. Engineer, Joint Commissioner of Customs (Airport), said that when the officials searched the checked-in baggage of Mani Pakkirisamy, 38, they found the Arawona fish of varied sizes.

They were packed in polythene bags filled with water and injected with oxygen.

Import of live ornamental fish requires licence from the Director-General of Foreign Trade.
