Suresh sizzles for Namakkal

Theni: Off-spinner S. Suresh Kumar (six for 31) starred in Namakkal’s thrilling one-wicket win over Tuticorin in the five-team zone ‘F’ league of the TNCA inter-district under-19 cricket tournament here on Monday.

The scores: Tuticorin 176 in 41 overs (Sivakumar 60, S. Suresh Kumar six for 31) lost to Namakkal 177 for nine in 46.3 overs (Paramasivam four for 19); Krishnagiri 118 in 35 overs (Ramachandran 50, Varukumar three for 19, Manimaran three for 19) bt Villupuram 111 in 24.2 overs (Balakrishnan four for seven, Raju three for five).

PKD MHSS wins

P.K.D. Matriculation HSS, Pollachi, clinched the E.Rm.E. Rengasamy Memorial Trophy when it won the 12th State-level inter-school volleyball tournament at Alagarkovil near Madurai on Sunday.

The last match in the semifinal round robin league between PKD MHSS and Khajamian HSS (Tiruchi), which happened to be title-match (the teams had two wins each to their credit earlier) had to be abandoned due to rain.

The result of the match had to be decided by spin of the coin, which favoured PKD MHSS. Vel Udayar HSS (Thiruvarur) finished third with its only win over GHSS (Edamalaiyur).

Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar HSS in last eight

Host Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar Higher Secondary School entered the quarterfinals of the Kannan-Easwari Trust Trophy State-level inter-school volleyball tournament defeating St. Mary’s HSS 25-6, 25-17 at Madurai on Monday.

Other results (pre-quarterfinals): Sethupathy HSS bt Sivakasi Nadar MHSS 25-16, 25-23; TVS HSS bt VMJM HSS 25-8, 25-11. First round: St. Mary’s HSS bt Xavier’s HSS (Ayyar Bungalow) 25-7, 25-22.

Mount Zion CE in semifinals

Mount Zion College of Engineering (Pudukottai) beat host Syed Ammal Engineering College 3-0 to enter the semifinals of the Anna University zone IX inter-engineering college badminton (men’s) tournament at Seethakathi Sethupathi stadium, Ramanathapuram on Monday.
