Police personnel suspended

KOZHIKODE: The police on Tuesday placed under suspension Nadakkavu Additional Sub-Inspector Haridas Nambiar and a constable attached to the Nadakkavu station K. Anandan on charges of violating the norms of the Supreme Court while arresting All India Students Federation (AISF) Kozhikode district president P. Lyvins on Friday.

North Zone Inspector-General of Police V. Shantaram on Tuesday served notices of suspension on the two police personnel pending inquiry. Following the disciplinary action, the Communist Party of India (CPI), called off its march to the office of the Commissioner of Kozhikode City on Tuesday. Mr. Lyvins was taken into custody from his residence at Puthiyangadi at 1.30 a.m. in connection with the violent incidents at KMT Engineering College at Mukkom here a few years ago. A senior police official said that the suspended police personnel were planning on legal recourse against the action.
