Kozhikode: ITC-Welcomgroup’s Fortune Hotel at Chakkorathukulam here secured a stay from the High Court on Tuesday against an order of the Kozhikode Corporation. The civic body served a closure notice on the hotel on Monday in connection with the case of the four-star hotel dumping waste at various parts of the city. Hotel manager general manager C.B. Suriya Narayanan said the hotel management had contact Mayor M. Bhaskaran and informed him of the interim stay order. The hotel had also sought protection from the city police after alleged activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) vandalised the hotel by defacing the walls and lobby of the hotel with black oil on Monday evening. City Police Commissioner Anup Kuruvilla John had agreed to deploy police personnel at the hotel, the general manager said. The Nadakkavu police were trying to trace lorry contractor K. Manoharan against whom a non-bailable case had been registered. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
