Dancing mode: Jubilant Congress workers celebrating outside the party headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: Soon after news about the United Progressive Alliance Government landing a comfortable win in the trust vote trickled in on Tuesday evening, party workers, supporters and well wishers launched into celebration mode outside the 10 Janpath residence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the party headquarters at 24 Akbar Road. While sparkling crackers dazzle the night sky in myriad colours, the catchy sound of the drumbeats reverberated in the air adding to the atmosphere of merriment and joy. Amid the bursting of crackers and distribution of sweets by party supporters, Youth Congress activists could also be seen marching proudly waving the Congress flags and shouting zestful slogans in praise of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the young leader Rahul Gandhi. A torchlight march was also taken out. But what attracted considerable attention at the venue was a huge white balloon tied to a car with the message, “Sasti bijli, sabko bijli, parmanu bijli, sabko karar.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
