KOCHI: The government will launch an informal education programme across the State to provide primary education equivalent to Class IV for those aged up to 60 years who could not pursue formal schooling.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, N. Jayadevan, Director, Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA), said that it would be formally launched in the first week of September.

The 18-month-long programme was aimed at making the State first in the country to attain full literacy in terms of primary education.

Vocational training was also a part of the programme, Mr. Jayadevan said.

The KSLMA had drawn up a comprehensive curriculum for the programme keeping in mind the targeted beneficiaries, mostly aged people, he said.
