Wise choice: V.P. Mohammed Basheer Paravanoor, administrator, Al-Huda Central School, Kadampuzha launching The Hindu-NIE programme in the school on Wednesday. KADAMPUZHA (MALAPPURAM): The district-level inauguration of the Newspaper In Education (NIE) programme of The Hindu in Malappuram was held at Al-Huda Central School, Kadampuzha, on Wednesday. V.P. Mohammed Basheer Paravanoor, administrator of the school, launched the NIE programme at the school. Ratheesh Kumar, teacher, and Sonima, NIE coordinator at the school, also spoke. The NIE programme, designed by the newspaper for school children, aims to increase children’s proficiency in various faculties. The main modules include Language Skills, Me and Myself (with sessions on handling examinations, designing, and behavioural skills), Me and Others, Science and Mathematics, Humanities, My Safe Planet and Culture and Heritage. Each module consists of various skills-sets from which individual schools can select. Modules have been carefully designed to suit the co-curricular needs of students of Classes VII, VIII and IX. The programme is tremendously popular in schools across the country. The response to the NIE programme from schools in the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad has been very encouraging this academic year. So far, more than 40 schools have already registered for the programme in these three districts. The Al-Huda School has selected the skill-sets of pronunciation and speaking under Language Skills for Class VII, grammatical and reading skills under Language Skills for Class VIII and writing skills under Language Skills and handling exams under the Me and Myself module for Class IX. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
