VMC takes up road repairs

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) launched temporary road repair works in the city on Wednesday. “The corporation will take up patch works in the city on day-to-day basis hereafter, so as to ensure that the road users do not face any hardship,” said Deputy Mayor Samanthapudi Narasaraju, who conceived the idea of forming the task force teams to take up repair works. The VMC formed three task force teams, one in each VMC circle. The corporation will provide a vehicle and the necessary material for the patch works to each task force team, which is led by an assistant engineer.

The teams were asked to complete the road repairs in the next three months.

The works were being taken up from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Deputy Executive Engineer concerned of the circle would take stock of the situation on day-to-day basis, he said.

Internal roads

Mr. Narasaraju said there were around 400 internal roads in the city where the potholes needed to be covered immediately. The patch works were taken up, as the total restoration of roads would take some more time in view of monsoon.

Mayor Mallika Begum formally kickstarted the road repair works.
