Students urged to take interest in cultural activities

Special Correspondent

Kozhikode: The students of Silver Hills Public School rocked to music and dance on Friday as they celebrated ‘School Kalotsavam 2008-09,’ a cultural festival.

School manager Fr. Thomas Thenth, who presided over the inaugural session, reminded students that winning competitions was important but more important was taking part and performing. He told the students how Abraham Lincoln had failed in a number of elections early on in his life before getting elected as president of the United States of America. Work hard; success will be yours, he said. Principal Fr. Joswin Thundathil welcomed the gathering. He stressed the need for students to take active interest in cultural programmes.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) president Sangeet Menon reminded the students that all work and no play would make them dull.

PTA president (kindergarten) Dr. Pramod and school leader Abhiram Arjun Kumar also spoke at the inaugural session. Competitions were held in fancy dress, ‘mappila pattu,’ mono act, ‘kolkali,’ ‘duff muttu,’ extempore speech, action songs and story telling.

Competitions in Bharathanatyam, Oppana, Mohiniyattom, folk dance, classical music and instrumental music would be held on Saturday, Fr Joswin Thundathil said.
