Corrections and clarifications

* * The third paragraph in a report “The day after, BJP expels eight MPs” (July 24, 2008) gave the name of one of the MPs as “… Haribhai Rathore (Maharashtra)”. (It was an error in the BJP press release.) A reader said the name should have been Haribhau Rathod. The BJP (Central Office), New Delhi, clarifies that it should have been Mr. Harisingh Nasaru Rathod.

The BJP list of its MPs says: … Mr. Haribhau Madhav Jawale (Constituency: Jalgaon – Maharashtra) and Mr. Harisingh Nasaru Rathod (Constituency: Yavatmal – Maharashtra).

* * The seventh paragraph in a report “[United States Consul-General in South India] David Hopper looks back on his tenure in Chennai” (July 24, 2008) was “The Chennai consulate, opened in 1969, did face a space crunch, he said, and one had to remember that for more than a decade since it was opened, the consulate hardly processed a few dozen visa applications every day.” The American Consulate in Chennai, opened in the late 1940s at the Dare House, in Parrys Corner, moved to 150 Mount Road and then to the Gemini Circle. The sentence should have been “The Chennai Consulate, which moved to its present location at Gemini Circle in 1969 ….”

* * The second paragraph in a report “Land near Bangalore airport not to be auctioned” (July 23, 2008) was “Giving this information to H.D. Revanna (Janata Dal-Secular) in the Assembly on Tuesday, Tourism and Infrastructure Development Minister G. Janardhan Reddy said the remaining 84 acres would be leased to private institutions at Rs. 3 an acre”, leading to queries. The Bangalore Bureau clarifies that it should have been Rs.3 crore an acre.
