Police association expresses concern

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode city committee of the Kerala Police Officers Association has expressed concern over the disciplinary action taken against police personnel attached to the Nadakkavu police station here.

North Zone Inspector-General of Police V. Shantaram had on Tuesday placed under suspension Additional Sub-Inspector Haridas Nambiar and a constable K. Anandan on charges of violating the norms of the Supreme Court while arresting All India Students Federation (AISF) Kozhikode district president P. Lyvins last week.

Association president Assinar and secretary T.K. Saumiyan said in a press release on Thursday that the disciplinary action initiated by senior officers would lower the morale of the police force in general. The police personnel had been suspended while executing official duty, the office-bearers said.

The Nadakkavu police had taken into custody Mr. Lyvins from his residence at Puthiyangadi at 1.30 a.m. last Friday in a non-bailable offence relating to the violent incidents at KMT Engineering College at Mukkom here a few years ago.
