NEW DELHI: K. Narayana Kurup, Chairman of the National Wage Boards for Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees, has asked the Centre that he be relieved of the responsibility. In a communication to the Cabinet Secretary dated July 1, he said that with the submission of the interim report recommending 30 per cent interim relief, a major part of the work of the wage boards was over. The term of the wage boards runs for two more years. “All that remains to be done during these two years is the preparation of the final report, which is nothing but an enlarged version of the interim report with the classification of establishments into various categories. I feel it is not worthwhile to be an umpire for too long a period in a fierce cockfight for a nickel-and-dime,” he said in the communication. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
