Man gets seven-year RI for assaulting tenant’s daughter

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A court here has sentenced a man convicted of criminally assaulting the minor daughter of his tenant after kidnapping her to seven-year rigorous imprisonment.

Additional Sessions Judge Narottam Kaushal also slapped a fine of Rs.20,000 on convict Kulwant Singh.

The court relied on the testimony of the girl who had in her deposition said that the accused had repeatedly criminally assaulted her in captivity.

Earlier the accused had contended that he had been framed in the case because he had evicted the teenaged victim and her mother who were his tenants out of their rented premises.

But the court rejected his contention saying he was not able to back his contention with any evidence.

As per prosecution, the mother of the victim had lodged a complaint with the Sultanpuri police in North-West Delhi in 2002 about her daughter going missing.

Investigations

Following investigations, the girl was recovered a few days later from custody of the accused after which he was arrested. The police had then booked him under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to criminal assault, kidnapping and wrongful confinement.
