HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president D. Srinivas has made it clear that none can deny membership to a person, who wishes to join the Congress. Reacting to complaints that certain leaders in the districts were deliberately denying membership to their rivals, Mr. Srinivas, at a press conference on Friday, warned that nobody could go against the guidelines issued by the AICC and the APCC. Form distribution“Membership forms have to be distributed by the mandal Congress presidents and any lapse or complaint would be viewed seriously,” Mr. Srinivas remarked. Stating that the mandal units of the Congress had been directed to take up a membership drive, the APCC chief said there was no reason for office bearers to prevent somebody from becoming a party member. Mr. Srinivas said though the membership drive was the responsibility of the district Congress units, the APCC has also decided to give membership books to leaders, who come to the party headquarters, from August 1. “But, these books will be issued only after consulting the district units and verifying the antecedents of the persons approaching the APCC headquarters,” he pointed out. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
