Quota : APPSC to approach apex court

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has decided to contest the High Court’s judgment directing the State government to implement the rule of reservation in respect of the preliminary examinations (Prelims) held as part of recruitment test for Group I services.

Announcing this to reporters here on Friday after Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy held discussions with APPSC officials and SC/ST/BC leaders led by R. Krishnaiah, APPSC Chairman Y. Venkatram Reddy said the decision to contest the verdict was taken, as the apex court would clear the issue once and for all.

He, however, said he would consult the Advocate General before filing the petition before the Supreme Court, as directed by the Chief Minister.

The main examinations of the recruitment test (Mains) would be held on August 7 as originally announced. Mr. Krishnaiahalleged that Mr. Venkatram Reddy was misleading the Chief Minister on a crucial issue which would decide the fate of many candidates belonging to weaker sections. Instead, he must pave way for implementation of the High Court directive.
